Have you ever been part of a sales pitch that turned from compelling to scary and bizarre? A sales pitch where the person turns manipulating to get you to buy something?
Unfortunately, the church is famous for similar actions. God’s message becomes a message of manipulation, not of salvation, when we have hidden agendas. This is the reason why it has gotten increasingly difficult to tell people about Jesus, and even more so, to stay on God’s mission. The mission of God, or Missio Dei, is the idea of God’s nature and expression. It is who He is and What God reveals to us… To save the world...to extend grace to the sinful… To bring an alternative to living life for ourselves and without purpose. This is not an activity of the church but the actions that prove that we are the church. This is the reason we must ask ourselves if we are acting on the mission of God, or are we just going to church? Are we giving everything we’ve got to be a church that gathers, grow, give and go? A church that loves to gather in fellowship, worship, and service to others? A church that, due to their spiritual maturity, has seen their responsibility to fund the mission of God in this community… Our mission to help people who are far from God, experience His hope. Because of that growth, and generosity we can GO and make more disciples of Jesus for the transformation of the world!! Ask God to help you carry out His mission and what values you need help with. It could be compassion, it could be grace, mercy, service, giving, empowerment, or encouragement. If you have no values, you have no purpose. Will you live for your own goals, comfort, and pleasure, or will you live the rest of your life for God’s glory? Jesus expressed His own mission in Luke 4:18 when He read from the scroll of Isaiah: "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." A big fundamental principle of God’s mission: TO EXTEND COMPASSION If the mission of God doesn’t sound, look and acts with compassion, it is manipulation, NOT the mission of God. John 3:16 is a description of God’s love. “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” 1: God’s compassion is Extravagant! “God so loved”. His love is so infinite, it’s everlasting. So Incomprehensible that it passes knowledge and so indiscriminate that it would be given to the least worthy, sinners. 2: God’s compassion is Exhaustive - “the world” 3: God’s compassion is Expressive – “that He gave”. The cross was the demonstration of God’s Love. It was always God’s plan to pass the mission on to the church. Not to accomplish on its own, but to commit to it, invest themselves in it, and faithfully carry it out. "Just as the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you" (John 20:21). "Just as You sent Me into the world, even so I sent them into the world (John 17:18).” When people ask, why do I need to go to church? Tell them, because God has a mission that is too big for one person to carry it out. Because if you are not living for this mission, you are not living for Christ. Proverbs 14:12 The Voice (VOICE) 12 “Before every person lies a road that seems to be right, but the end of that road is death and destruction.” Just because it seems right, doesn’t mean it is… We all need Jesus! Join us Sunday at 10:15 am and let’s continue on God’s mission together!
